Mortgage Fraud Investigator

The position requires industry experience with knowledge of mortgage fraud and Anti-Money Laundering functions. The candidate should have general insight into mortgage underwriting, processing, loss mitigation, foreclosure, and bankruptcy procedures.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently investigate known or suspected internal and external financial frauds
  • Deliver comprehensive investigation reports providing recommendations to mitigate company losses
  • Monitor customer activity to comply with the companies BSA/AML program
  • Complete Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) and obtain approval from AML Compliance Officer
  • Prioritize time sensitive cases
  • Complete customer risk reviews
  • Utilize industry fraud and research tools in case analytics
  • Develops contacts with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and peers at other financial institutions to facilitate investigations. Conducts interviews of a highly sensitive nature with both customers and employees to determine facts and obtain statements in regards to any policy and procedure violations.
  • Maintains thorough understanding of current regulations, policies and procedures that impact the investigation function.
  • Documents results of investigations and meets reporting requirements of both internal and external entities.
  • Suggests revisions to policies and procedures to facilitate loss prevention and recommends physical security enhancements to protect and safeguard the company's employees and premises.



  • 5 years' minimum related mortgage experience in fraud and financial crimes investigations
  • Knowledge of BSA compliance requirements including AML, OFAC, and CIP
  • Experienced in conducting and documenting investigations
  • Certified Fraud Examiner preferred
  • Extremely strong organizational skills required
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient report writing
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent retention skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
